Kawanza was born March 9, 1992 in Newport News to Frederick Beaty and Melisa Moore. He went to Warwick High School and was actively involved in sports and played football. Kawanza loved to travel and visited Connecticut and Georgia frequently to visit family. KJ was very family oriented and loved hanging out with his friends and family. Kawanza dedicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ on 20 January 2011. He enjoyed singing and writing songs as well as reading books, especially his bible. His humor, love and presence will be sorely missed by his family.
Kawanza is survived by his grandparents Shirley McPhatter, Hurley and Cynthia Jones; mother Melisa Dargan and stepfather Clyde Dargan of Newport News, VA; father Frederick Beaty and stepmother Erica Carter-Beaty of Decatur, GA; his girlfriend Jessica Boyd and unborn child; his brothers Jukwan Ward, Clyde Dargan, Jr., Lamont Dargan, Errol Carter, Shemar Stevens, Eraun Carter, Monterey Clark and his sisters Acura Dargan, Franchesca Caliwan, Erykah Carter; his devoted great aunt Susie Darden, devoted aunts LaVonna Lucious-Moore, Shatasha Smith, Sasheen Jones; devoted uncles Jermaine McPhatter, Ralph McPhatter, Jr., Robert Mizell, Jr., Larne Smith, Davon Boddie; his devoted friends Kelvin Robinson, James Sykes; a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Sammie Moore.
