Kawanza Jamal Beaty was known as a loving, layed-back, down to earth young man whose life was taken too soon by the Newport News Police Department on July 4, 2015.
The police claim that Kawanza pointed a sawed-off shotgun at the police and he refused to drop the weapon. This claim has been proven to be false. The family received the medical examiners report on July 30, 2015 outlining that he was shot in the back of the head. Now if he was facing the cops with a shot gun (supposedly) in his hand, two officers standing in front of him and one officer standing to his right with a K-9. How is it possible for the bullet to enter the left of his head behind his ear and went towards the front right of his head and did not exit. No cops were standing to his left with him facing the cops. The fatal wound and only wound was to his head, specifically to the back of his head. In order for him to get shot in the left back of his head, his back had to be turn to the police when they killed him. He fell forward which is why he had scratches on his forehead and his knee.
In regards to the shotgun, none of his DNA or fingerprints was on the shotgun at the scene of the crime, but two police officers fingerprints were.
Kawanza was a good person whose life was taken too soon. He knew God, and he would give you the shirt off his back.
The family of Kawanza Beaty is raising money to file a Wrongful Death lawsuit against the City of Newport News, VA for what happened to him on July 4, 2015. We want the truth and we want Justice.
